Ghost Sightings at Victorian Pier in North Somerset

Fishermen near the historical North Somerset’s Victorian style Clevedon pier reported about a ghostly figure staring out to sea. Many reported that the apparition usually disappear in the mist after being seen walking through locked gates. The ghostly figure also been seen talking to itself in the sides of the pavilion building.

Jack Hulbert, Clevedon Angling Club member, is one of the early witnesses of the apparition. One early morning at around 4:30 he went to the pier and saw a figure of a person looking out to sea. He thought that the figure was his fellow fisherman and decided to shout at him then walk towards that ghost for a chat. However, the person was disappeared in the mist.

He made sure that what he saw was not part of a practical joke from his friends. He walked around to check the area but no one was there. He said that the ghost was wearing dark clothes but he can’t determine whether a man or woman.

Other fishermen also witnessed the ghost passing by the locked pier gate without triggering off the security light. Sometimes, the ghost is seen mumbling and sitting on the benches at the corner.

The area was named as “ghost coast” because of several unexplained sightings, according to pier mistress Linda Strong. There are many different stories from different witnesses of the ghost.

Young man Chris Buxton who usually go fishing in the area at night claimed that he saw a ghost as well. Buxton asserted that many people reported ghost sightings in the area and he believed that this was an indication that stories about the ghost were true.

Strong said that many believe that the ghost is an old fisherman or spirits of the dead people whose ashes were thrown at the sea by their love ones or relatives.
Hulbert added that the apparition he saw was a human form and he was very certain of that.

Strong added that anybody could experience something unusual when alone in the area but once you get a sense of a presence it is not scary at all.
