Peterborough police have been receiving calls from individuals who believe they encountered ghost thieves and troublemakers. Cambridgeshire Police released findings showing that Peterborough police have been asked to look into incidences involving ghosts on six instances in the last 3 years.
The spooky element about these whole ghostly reports is that three of the reported sightings happened on September 9 in consecutive years. On February 21, 2011, two ghostly sightings were also reported to the Peterborough police.
The police revealed that all reports involving ghostly activities for the last three years had happened in the Northern Division of the country which comprises the whole of Peterborough.
Police officers said that all cases reported involving ghost are not been investigated further. Cambridgeshire Police spokesperson said that even though these kinds of reports are very rare, they would take action if necessary.
However, the sightings never surprised Stuart Orme, who works at the so-called haunted Peterborough Museum. Orme, who also organises ghost walks around the center of the city, point out that Peterborough is an ancient city with so many history and stories about it are getting more interesting every day. He explains that ghost stories have been building up in the city over the years and people within the city are living with these tales every day.
Orme thinks that around 80 per cent of ghost stories can be explained with normal reasons but about 20 per cent have no logical answers.
Two of the most popular rumored haunted places are the city’s museum and Queensgate Shopping Centre.
The museum is said to be the place where Australian Soldier Sergeant Thomas Hunter of First World War was brought there to undergo treatment on his wounds in 1916. The museum was a hospital back then and the ghost of the soldier is said to wander around the building. Museum staffs have reported witnessing furniture being moved around. Orme added that the museum is temporarily close as of now but there are still people working in the building and regularly reported that they heard footsteps when no one is around where they heard them.
Orme also cited various ghost sightings at the Queensgate Shopping Centre over the past 3 decades. The centre was a residential area before and the ghosts seen at the place are said to be former residents.
Orme said that the reason why people are interested about ghost sightings is the fascination on afterlife. Even those who do not believe in ghost are still fascinated in every ghost story and that can never be changed, according to Orme.
