Various stories and claimed ghost videos captured at the Martin and Osa Johnson Safari Museum attracted paranormal investigators and curious people in the community to spend a night in the building.
Topeka-based Paranormal Research Investigators founded by Danny Howard and Nick Spantgos has already investigated 368 locations and recently visited the museum to conduct one.
Spantgos said that their group has necessary steps and processes before declaring the location is haunted. He mentioned that they take every investigation seriously. He revealed that out of the total number of places they investigated only 57 they consider to have ghost activity.
PRI is in partnership with Paranormal Adventures USA, a business that organizes ghost tours and investigations for the public.
After a short talk in Tioga Hotel with owner Todd Johnson, where the owner talked about the history of the hotel, participants in the investigation then went to the museum.
There are four places in the museum where strong activity reportedly always occurred which are the main lobby, archives room, a particular display case and upstairs rooms.
Many reported that apparitions always occurred in the main lobby of the building. The lobby shares with the Chanute Public Library. In archives room, which also serves as the office of curator Jacque Borgeson, there were many reports objects were moving on their own and reports on unusual noises. It is also the place of a doll that reportedly caused problems when it was on display. A particular display case reportedly has labels always go missing. Upstairs rooms always felt with paranormal environment. It was in this room the Harvey Girls slept.
A member of the PRI team was there in each area. Participants were divided into four groups and have gone to the four areas spending more than an hour in each.
Investigators used different equipment hoping to capture ghost videos, photos and strange noises. Among the equipment often used to detect any paranormal activity are electronic devices and motion detectors.
Every sound made by the investigators themselves was notified by the one doing it by mentioning it out loud in order to determine unusual sounds in the recording.
Participants were given a go signal to ask questions and take their own strategy on the investigation. Each group of participants has museum volunteers allowing them to learn about the history of the museum.

Some years back one of the staff told me that they had a photo which appeared to have a face in it, but laughed it off as nonsense. They have had overnight sleepovers with volunteers and again, laughed because nothing ever happened. They were joking about dust particles being orbs. Also, the museum is in a restored train depot. At the time the Ghost Hunt was advertised, they started claiming that the depot "is listed as one of the most haunted places in the state." That is the absolute first time we've heard that and an internet search turns up nothing. The staff is the only ones claiming it's on a Most Haunted list. They are on a tiny budget and one of the staff is a publicity hound. Their goal is a motion picture so we assume any publicity they can get, they'll do it. I don't know who claimed to have been so scared by a ghost that they walked home one night, but that museum would never been left unlocked all night out of fear of a ghost. Their spokesperson is very good at being the center of attention, for both the museum and herself. We're all former donors, so we remain anonymous.
