Ghosts?

Every one of us even before believes the life after death. We usually call the life that has remained after a person dies as a “soul”, but scientists do not believe on their existence because they do not leave any evidences that science could investigate them.

It was articulated by self-professed physics that ghost can be seen and even feel their presence by those who are with very sharp sensitivity. But some physicists clarified that it is due to the electromagnetic changes in the surroundings.

But according to some paranormal investigators, ghost can only be seen by human eyes and not by any technological capturing gadget.

Even quantum physicists do not fully understand the interaction of human mind and matter at the quantum level – the consciousness.

According to Joan Forman, the ghost we believe may be another point in time, rather than the deceased. Which means that any moments remembered from the past or present will appear to your vision in some visual-defect reasons.

“However, all the evidence concerning this is anecdotal, and there is no scientific proof. There is no place that gives everyone a ghostly experience and no psychic can prove their powers to the scientific world.” As concluded by Joan Forman.

Even mathematics has proven the possibility of the 4th dimension. What does this really mean? Do ghosts really exists and enter our own dimension? Why there is no one can prove their existence? Is there really life after death? And why do this unexplained paranormal incidents still happening? or science has limitations only?

These questions may not be answered, no one knows the truth. No one had come back to earth from his death to prove the existence of other life. Maybe we are restricted to know more about other life. And maybe the ghost that we believed is just a case of electromagnetic pulse. These beliefs still remain a mystery throughout the ages.

Ghosts at White River Valley Museum

Stories about a ghost wandering around the White River Valley Museum have been circulated for many years already. It is also believed by many that the spirit is still attached to the artifacts displayed in the museum. Curator Hilary Pittenger, who has been working for already 6 years in the museum, also believes that she has already seen the ghost. Pittenger narrated that her first experience happened before she learned about the ghost. She encountered something white passing to her and had felt it like a textile or fabric. She learned after that her coworkers also have similar encounters.

Reports and stories about the ghost encourage paranormal investigators David Vacknitz and Stephen Johnston from Auburn Paranormal Activities Research Team (APART) to visit the museum. They checked the displays and storerooms at the museum hoping to collect evidence on the existence of the ghost.

Johnston tried to look for electronic voice phenomenon (EVP) using a video camera mounted with a digital voice recorder. He explained that sometimes the voice of spirits or other noises can only be captured with voice recorder. Meanwhile, Vacknitz tried to find anomalies by measuring electromagnetic fields at the main display rooms of the museum.

Investigators did not record something paranormal and did not capture any voices from other dimension. However, they capture words from their Ghost Radar app and they have also personal experiences in the museum.

Johnston said that they are convinced something not normal in the museum but they cannot determine if the spirit is a male or a woman. They also did not dismiss the idea that the spirit might be a residual energy attached to an object. APART is interested to visit again the museum to have further investigation.

Dealing with Haunted Properties

Most ghost researchers become aware on haunted houses through print media, radio stations and word of mouth. Usually the owners of the reported haunted properties are the one who made contact to ghost investigators and ask them to get involve. Then, ghost researchers will conduct interview to the witnesses prior to their actual visit of the property. Investigators usually check the site first if it is worthy for another visit.

After the ghost investigators being informed about the haunting, most of them will arrange an interview with the occupants and determine whether their claims have any real substance. Ghost researchers often ask the occupants to audio tape their answers to different questions related to the reported haunting but if they refuse to it, ghost researchers will have to write down the occupants’ testimony. If the investigators are satisfied and convinced to the testimonies, they will ask permission to visit them again and spend a night with the property with family and friends to conduct investigation.

Some investigators will bring with them to the location a psychic. This psychic is someone whom the investigators have worked with before and whom they know and trust. However, this psychic does not know anything about the haunted property and she will only know the information after the investigation ends.

Within the haunted property, lead investigator will group everyone together and brief them their roles throughout the night. A group of investigators has usually a maximum of 6 members and a leader. Ghost researchers will bring different tools to detect paranormal activity. Each investigative group will have their own devices but the most common are hand-held and tripod based camcorders for uninterrupted video footage (great for capturing ghost videos), beam barrier alarms, EMF meter, thermometer to determine sudden temperature drops, 35mm or other cameras, infrared thermometer, chalk dust or flour to find out any ghostly movement, pens and paper to write down any paranormal events and digital tape recorders to catch any electronic voice phenomena. But the best equipment for any investigative group is their own ears and eyes.

Team leader usually talks to his members about the normal background noises and reiterates the fact that any building loses its heat at the end of the day and gets cooler during the night which could greatly affect the very fabric of the building. The floorboards may contract because of the temperature changes. Also normal noises will include the air in the water pipes, birds and mice getting into the loft and their sounds may create ghostly-like sounds. Some doors of the building may move alone because of uneven construction. Windows may have a little opening that causes the curtain to move as if being prompted by a ghostly presence. Outside sounds may also be misinterpreted as sounds from the inside.

Tutbury Castle’s History and Famous Ghosts

Tutbury Castle is located right in the center of England, just above the Tutbury town. The castle is located on a hill which has wooded slopes around and a deep moat. It is overlooking on a green fertile plain divided by the River Dove.

Several investigations were carried out in the castle and researchers found Roman material. In June 2004, excavators discovered evidence that the site was occupied as early as the Mesolithic period which was 5,000 years ago.

Together with the interesting history of the castle are the ghosts that wander around the property.

One of the famous ghosts is the keeper who is reported wearing a full suit of armour. The ghost, who is described by many as authoritative, has not only been seen but also heard yelling “Get these hence!” while steeping out in John of Gaunt’s Gateway. The apparition was last seen during daylight few years ago by a visitor who initially thought that the ghost is an insane enactor who told him to “get over the fence.” The visitor confirmed that what he had seen was a ghost after he was told that there were no enactors on the place on that day. Similar ghostly apparitions had been also reported by other skeptic visitors.

Mary Queen of Scots also sighted in Tutbury. Mary was suffered much at the place as a captive of Elizabeth 1st. She was seen standing and wearing white clothing at the top of the South Tower by more than 40 men. Recently, she was seen many times between 10:15 p.m. and 11 p.m. and this time she is dressed in black.

The white lady also made appearances in the property and was frequently captured in photo. However, the images seen were only white column of mist.

The girl named Ellie is considered as the most widely experienced and felt ghost at the property. She looks like a five year old child and described as having a pale hair, white and usually laughs.

In the Great Hall area, a little boy has been seen on the stairs wearing a white shirt and visitors who have seen him thought he is a real live boy.

The Frenchman has also several sightings who is around 5ft and 10 inches tall and dressed in a long dark coat and breeches seldom seen in the Great Hall standing. He sometimes rants in French and gives out an evil smell when he is around but can’t be seen.

Television and film production staffs, who want to have ghost photos and ghost videos, often experienced battery drain in their equipment without normal reasons. Some of the rooms are seen having blue lights moving around. On several instances, orbs are captured in cameras.

Ghostly Activity: The USS Constellation Ship at Baltimore Harbor

The USS Constellation, which is a 176-foot sailing ship, is the U.S. Navy’s first ship that was built in 1797 as a frigate. It was used in 5 major wars, from the Civil War up to the World War 2. The ship was called the “Yanke Race Horse” because it had a sharp bow lines which made it a faster ship compared to others. It was finally retired and permanently docked in Baltimore in 1955.

Paranormal encounters usually happen at around midnight and most active between Christmas Day and New Year’s Day. Gunpowder frequently smelled first before the encounters. Since 1955, several ghostly activities have been observed including ghost lights, ghost-like figure walking or floating around the decks of the ship and unusual noises.

A ghostly figure of Neil Harvey is sometimes seen on the orlop deck. Harvey was court-marshaled for cowardice in 1799 and was convicted for leaving his assigned station because of fear during a war with the French on February 5, 1799. He was also convicted as a traitor and as a punishment; he was beaten through a sword by Lieutenant Starrett. Then, Captain Thomas Truxtun ordered to tie Harvey in front of a cannon. Harvey was eventually blown into pieces.

Apparition of Captain Thomas Truxtun, who was a seasoned officer from the Revolutionary War and first commander of the USS Constellation from 1798-1801, has been suspected as the one frequently seen wearing an old navy uniform on the forecastle deck.

Twentieth century ship’s watchman Carl Hansen had a strong bond with the ship who was a Royal navy cook when he was still young until he got old, making him an old sailor. His ghost is reported giving tours to visitors having no knowledge that he was a ghost.

The spirit of eleven years old boy reported wandering around the ship. He was the assistant of the surgeon aboard the USS Constellation from 1820-1822. He was reportedly murdered by two other sailors.

Apparition of the sailor who hanged himself due to depression is said to made appearances. His ghost is described as sad entity.
