Spirit & Ghost Story: The Bell Witch

The character of The Bell Witch is mysterious but it has been hypothesized that ghost is Kate Batts from Halifax, North Carolina. She was involved to John Bell until she passed away in the 1770's. Her remain was discovered close to a well near to her residence. The issues around her death were unexplained and stay unsolved.

John Bell, her forthcoming spouse, wedded Lucy briefly after Kate's burial. The newlywed partners decided to live in Tennessee. In 1817 John spotted a dog-like animal in his cornfield. Not wanting to have his plants trampled or damaged, he got his firearm and shot at the creature. The animal vanished quickly to nowhere. After the unusual presence, the family started to be bothered with noises of someone trying to get into their home; these noises included scratching, banging and knocking on the entrance door.

The force or entity at some point found a way into the home and started to torment all of its residents. The activity created itself as The Bell Witch and while it targeted the majority of its assault on John, the 9 Bell children were also repeatedly assaulted. The kids were attacked as they attempted to rest by an invisible entity whispering in their ears, pulling their hair and slapping them. While taking walks to school, they would be bathed with stones and sticks dropping from nowhere. The entity specifically liked tormenting the twelve-year-old Betsy Bell. Betsy would hear a strange sound that would grow nearer every single day; she would come down into convulsions, which at some point made her to black out as the haunting became more severe.
It appeared that any person who came into the house was tormented by the spirit or some referred to it as ghost. A Minister Johnson was invited by John Bell to bless his residence and conduct an exorcism. This did nothing at all but rage as the spirit or ghost then avenged towards the Minister by use of violence.

A family good friend, William Porter, followed to pay a visit to the Bells. The Bell Witch proclaimed to William that she would keep him comfortable as he slept. After announcing her plans, she continued to move the covers from him. Within seconds he experienced a snake-like cold chill sliding on him. William immediately made a decision to catch the spirit or ghost inside the blanket so that he could throw blanket and spirit on the fire in the fire pit. However, the entity he caught inside the folds of the blanket became heavier and heavier with every step he took and a bad smell started to release from the blanket. The weight of the blanket and the horrible scent prevail over William. He abandoned the blanket and runaway quickly from the house.

John Bell was affected by a number of health problems of which The Bell Witch claimed credit. One try she has done on his life was stopped when it was observed that John's tonic had been changed with poison. Even so, on December 19, 1820 John ended up into a delirium that he never completely recovered from. The Bell Witch is reported to have sung at his burial the following day.

Following his funeral The Bell Witch announced she would come back in 7 years. In 1828 she did come back but only for a brief period where she attempted to torment Lucy and 2 of her sons. While the Witch came back and went on to torment the Bell family irrespective of where they are, it was not close to the same degree of attacks that were aimed at John Bell.

There are still stories nowadays that the place known as the Bell Farm is still getting haunted not only by the Bell Witch but also by John, Lucy, and perhaps Betsy Bell.
