William I was the first man to rein the Windsor Castle from 1066 to 1087 when he was the King of England. The castle was rebuilt by Edward II in the 13th century and successive monarchs further made improvements. The castle was destroyed by fire on November 20, 1992 and one of the important Royal art collections that were badly damaged by the fire was Sir William Beechy’s equestrian portrait of George III. It was reopened in November 1997 after it was renovated. The castle, which has been a Royal residence since 1066, is reported to have many paranormal activities going on. Some of them are the following.
Saxon hunter Herne was one of King Richard II’s Royal keepers. He was envied by the other keepers for his exceptional abilities in hunting. One day, the King’s life was in danger of being trampled by a furious stag and Herne saved the King by putting himself between the stag and the King. Legends say about witchcraft and suicide and a demonic horned creature. It is believed that whoever sees the demonic horned creature would experience misfortune and suffer from illness. The being can be seen in the garden of the castle with his trademark head of the stag.
King Henry VIII is believed to be walking the castle’s hallways. Many guests in the castle reported that they heard footsteps together with agonizing moans which are believed to be from King Henry VIII.
Anne Boleyn, who is one of King Henry VIII’s wives, reportedly stands at the window in the Dean’s Cloister occasionally.
In the Royal Library, Queen Elizabeth is said to have been walking from one room to another dressed in a black gown with a black lace shawl draped over her shoulders.
King Charles I, who was beheaded during the English Revolution, has been seen several times around the library and the Canon’s house.
King George III has been seen in the windows situated below the Royal Library where he was confined during his fight against mental deterioration.
Sir George Villiers, the first Duke of Buckingham, is said to stay in one of the bedrooms of the castle. There are many more ghosts haunt in the castle including a young soldier who committed a suicide by shooting himself while on duty.

I think the Windsor Castle is one of the most interesting places on earth. It had witnessed so many events that we will never know. No wonder that the place is haunted.
