Bachelor’s Grove Cemetery is the place to be if you want to experience the most haunted graveyard in Chicago, Illinois. The cemetery is located at the end part of the Rubio Woods Forest Preserve in nearby suburb of Midlothian, Illinois.
The cemetery started its operation in 1864 and people who lived nearby were immigrants mostly Germans who took part in the construction of the Illinois-Michigan Canal. They lived on a small farms and majority of their men are not married. This is the reason behind why the place is called Bachelor’s Grove. The place today is empty but it seems that the settlers are still there in sprit.
There were reports that a White Lady has seen in the cemetery. The ghost is also known as Mrs. Rogers or The Madonna of Bachelor’s Grove. She dressed in white and appeared every full moon. She is rumored to have been buried with her son beside her and occasionally seen holding a baby in her arms.
Other famous ghostly reports happened mostly around 1950’s. It is said that on the way leading to the cemetery, a picturesque white farmhouse appeared and then quickly vanished in several occasions. This is one scenario where a ghost is not a person.
The farmer together with his horse is also known to be seen in the cemetery. The story started when the farmer was plowing near the cemetery and his horse accidentally fell to the famous lagoon, pulling the plow as well as the farmer. About 100 years after the accident, two forest rangers reported to have witnessed similar farmer still plowing his land just like before.
Around the cemetery, lights and orbs are very common wherein the lights are seen as colored blue and orbs are flying over the cemetery. Some similar accounts involved comet-like lights flying above the graves.
Drivers may collide with a ghost car on the path near the cemetery. The car is reportedly to be a vintage one, specifically a 1940’s gangster automobile. Reports say that after the collision happened, there was no damage and no pain or whatsoever.
One of the most famous ghost sightings in the cemetery is the woman sitting on the grave. This is a very famous sighting because the ghost woman was caught on the camera and featured in the Chicago Sun-Times. The picture is so clear showing a woman comfortably sitting and staring away from the camera.
