The Carolina Inn is an AAA-4-Diamond hotel located on the campus of the University of Chapel Hill, North Carolina. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is currently recognized as one of the “cultural resources worthy of preservation” in the U.S.
It is noted that Dr. William Jacocks still did not check out in the hotel even after his death. He is reported staying at the inn as he reportedly let his presence felt by playing practical jokes such as locking guests out of a room in the second floor. Jacocks was active with the International Health Division of the Rockefeller Foundation and resided in the hotel during the last 17 years of his life. He is known to be friendly, gentle and kind who likes to joke.
Dr. Jacock’s living quarters was part of several rooms that were renovated in 1990. Occasionally, there were guests who reported that their new electronic lock failed to work and doors failed to open. There was a certain occasion when a maintenance worker used a ladder just to gain access to the locked room. There are other minor reports involving ghostly activities in the hotel that have been gathered and will be investigated. However, there is no ghost video yet being documented in the vicinity of the hotel.
The Seven Paranormal Research of North Carolina has been conducting several investigations at the inn. They were fortunate in several occasions as they documented sounds of footsteps, sounds of slammed door (empty and secure) and the faint music of a piano playing.
